Example:

Consider the following example of executing the instruction A=M+N, in which the sequence of steps are

(1) Load M

(2) Add N

(3) Store A.

We can easily identify the difference between stack architecture and accumulator based architecture. In stack architecture, push and pop are the two operations used and it may increase the complexity, but in case of accumulator based architecture. The immediate result is stored into the accumulator. Hence, no of instructions relatively reduced in this architecture model.

General Purpose Register Architecture:

General Purpose Register Architecture is classified into three different categories. They are,

(1) Register – Memory Architecture.

(2) Register – Register Architecture

(3) Memory – Memory Architecture.
